Evanston Animal Shelter, IL

Architect of Record: Holabird & Root
Needs Assesment and Animal Welfare Assurance

The existing shelter has been replaced by a new facility four times its size on the tight site. The new carbon net-zero building will take advantage of the facility’s visible and accessible site by providing 24/7 viewing from outside the building of the adoptable animals. Natural light is provided by clerestory windows and a glass-enclosed multi-purpose courtyard that serves as exterior dog get acquainted, dog exercise yard and secure training area.
