Connolly Architects served as associate architect for this public shelter facility in a north Dallas suburb. The facility is among the first shelters to fully segregate animal habitats from visitors. The public views animals in their habitats through a glass partition, which reduces risk of visitors being bitten or spreading disease from one animal to another through physical contact. This also helps the shelter staff control noise, odor and humidity in the public areas and maximize available public viewing hours.
Plano Animal Services staff reports that since the opening of the new facility in September 2001, adoption rates have increased dramatically.
