Connolly Architects, Inc.

CONNOLLY ARCHITECTS is a multi-disciplinary practice with a national reputation for excellence in animal shelter design. The firm's reputation is built on a keen understanding of animal control and humane issues, application of progressive ideas about shelter design and a commitment to improving conditions for shelter staff and the animals in their care.

Connolly Architects began to develop expertise in shelter design in 1990, when the firm designed a new Animal Control Shelter in Midland, Texas. The project was closely guided by veteran animal control director Coy Willis, who instilled in Connolly a commitment to improving this complex and undervalued building type. The Midland Shelter's design concept and function represent a new benchmark in shelter and animal habitat design. It was recognized as the Most Innovative Shelter by the Texas Animal Control Association in 1992, and received a Design Merit Award from AIA West Texas in 1994.

This project spawned a national practice that now includes more than forty projects in 14 states. Among these projects are two consultations as the architect member of The Humane Society of the United States Evaluation Team and one shelter design consultation for the American Association for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Connolly Architects was founded in 1979 and is located in Austin, Texas.
